Why not say Hi?

It is friendly, approachable and warm – right?

It is all of those things and we do want to appear warm and approachable to our audience…but, it might not quite set the right tone.

When we say Hi we tend to use a rising tone, as the subtext of Hi is, ‘How are you?’. Which is great when that is really what we mean. If we are about to a presentation or pitch and we say Hi with a rising tone – it can sound like we are questioning our right to be there, our right to speak.

So next time you speak at work will it be Hi or Hello, that kicks off your presentation?
