According to Adam Grant there are three kinds of networker.

Takers, Matchers and Givers. Takers traditionally have worked the room quickly and efficiently, creating deals where they can but not really building respectful relationships. Matchers, which is most of us by the way, will give as much as we get but no more. Givers are there to with the sole intention of being useful to others and building relationships. Their careers take longer to build but over time they success is more robust because of the strength of their network.
