I am good at my job, really good actually. It has taken many years and some considerable coaching to be able to say that out loud confidently and truthfully.

Do you love your business, service or product?

Could you talk about it all day, but when it comes to singing your own praises you falter, hedge or just clam up?

If this is true for you, you are not alone. Up to 70% of the population suffer from imposter syndrome at some point in their lives, and that moment of saying “I am the person that makes this work,” can be horribly daunting.

As uncomfortable as it may feel, there is real commercial value in being able to genuinely promote the you part of your business. People buy people; we only want to work with people we like and trust. So, as an entrepreneur, it is vital that you know what to say about yourself, but more importantly how to say it; finding and using your confident authentic body and voice. Speaking confidently about yourself is a skill, you can learn to do it better, more efficiently and with greater ease.

Here are three things you can do to make it easier.

  1. Focus on Why – Think about why you do what you do so well… is it your experience, outlook, or energy? Why is that good for the product or service? Why is that good for your client?
  2. Ground your feet – plant your feet, really feel the floor pushing up and gravity pulling you down. I know it sounds weird but your voice will be stronger and more confident.
  3. Breathe out – breathe out, relax and breathe in before you speak. You will feel calmer and speak at a better pace, and your audience will see and hear confidence
